Irish Government Announces $.5M funding to Mass Irish groups

The Consulate General of Ireland has announced continued Irish Government support for Irish groups from the Emigrant Support Programme. The total amount awarded by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mícheál Martin, this year to four Massachusetts based organisations is over $500,000.

The agencies receiving grants include: Irish Immigration Centre, $210,000; Irish Pastoral Centre, $188,275; Irish Cultural Centre of New England, $147.000. Receiving a first-time grant of $5000 is the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Foundation.

At a presentation ceremony at the Bosotn Consulate offices. Consul General of Ireland Michael Lonergan said: “I am delighted that we can demonstrate our continued commitment to the local Irish organisations that provide such valuable services to the local Irish and Irish-American communities here in Boston. These organisations do tremendous work on the ground dealing with legal, welfare and health issues, as well as promoting Irish culture in the region. I would like to congratulate the successful applicants and look forward to working closely with them in the coming year.”
