The 8th annual Blackstone Valley Celtic Festival takes place on
Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Indian Ranch in Webster
MA, with a line-up of Celtic music.
Performers include Fiddlers 3, Fergus, the Gobshites and Jug
O'Punch. Also appearing: the McInerney School of Irish Step Dancing,
and the Worcester Fire Brigade Pipes & Drums. The all-day festival
includes children's activities and entertainment, traditional food
and fare, The festival is located on Webster Lake, where swimming is

On Saturday June 19, 2010, The Irish Cultural Centre will take an
historical look back at Ireland with a presentation on the Irish War
of Independence by our Board of Director and WROL host Seamus
Mulligan. The evening will begin at 5:30pm with cocktails and
appetizers followed by the presentation, an Irish buffet dinner and a
viewing of the movie "The Wind That Shakes the Barley". Set in 1920s
Ireland, this movie follows "the struggle of two brothers as they join
the dangerous fight for independence from England. Read more

On Sunday May 23 from 2:00P.M. at the Boston Famine Memorial, there
will be a remembrance of those who suffered during this tragic time
in Ireland,. with prayers offered by Father Peter Nolan.

Irish Studies scholar Richard Finnegan has visited Ireland more times than he can count and most recently he spent nine days during spring break guiding 24 Stonehill students as they toured the country studying Irish history and literature. Next year, however, he will switch the focus of his scholarship to the Czech Republic where he will spend a semester teaching at Masaryk University. Read more

by Bill O'Donnell--Updated Jan 29 to correct donated amount from Ireland and the EU. Ireland has once again answered the call for help, this time from a ravaged Haiti. Irish aid agencies like Goal and Concern have been shipping lifesaving supplies and personnel into that island of nine million. The Irish government has joined with other members of the European Union in donating some $350 million and quickly airlifted over 85 tons of food, medicine and other essential aid. Read more
Winnie Henry is organizing a day of Irish Dance/Music ito raise funds for Haitian earthquake relief. Right now, she says she hopes to secure a venue in Quincy in February, and she expects to stage a day-long event with music, dance and "no speeches," and direct all proceeds to the Haitian people. Currently, the Irish government has pledged significant funds and resources to the rescue efforts, and staffers and volunteers from three Irish agences- GOAL, Concern and Haven- are on the ground now in Haiti as part of the massive international aid to the Haitian tragedy.
