Ireland President Mary McAleese is making a presidential visit to Massachusetts this week, arriving in Boston over the Memorial Day weekend. It marks her second visit to the area as President, and her first since 1999. An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (The Irish Dancing Commission) has awarded Boston and the Hynes Convention Center the 2013 World Irish Dancing Championships. Boston won the event over 20 other cities around the world. This will be only the second time these championships are held in the United States and the first time they have come to Boston. Glasgow, Scotland, Dublin and Belfast are hosting the event through 2012.

What will I do without The Globe? Am I supposed to carry my computer to the kitchen table each morning to get the news "on-line"Â before going to work? What about my lifetime ritual of going to the door and picking up the paper before I put on the coffee?

If you've been in Boston for more than a few minutes, you've probably heard Joan Quinn Eastman's voice, and most likely seen her at a social event or even in a movie.
