‘Bumbled’ – Creating buzz with a comical twist

The Here Comes Everybody Players, in collaboration with Tir Na Productions, will present the world premiere of “Bumbled,” a new comedy by Colin Hamell and Bernard McMullan that is directed by Carmel O’Reilly and stars Hamell. Performances begin on Feb. 8 and run through Feb. 11 at Cambridge’s newest arts venue, The Foundry, 101 Rogers Street.

Life is short. Especially if you’re a bee. There’s never enough time to make honey, prop up the human food chain, and fall in love.

“Bumbled” follows Pascal, an Irish honeybee, as he embarks on a poignant journey to tell the world about the importance of bees, to save the planet, and to find true happiness with his French girlfriend, the epic Marion.

“Bumbled" presents a one person, bee-twerking, Irish slow-dancing, sex-dodging odyssey, where too late often comes sooner than you think.

The award-winning Hamell is the producing artistic director of Tir Na Theatre. He last appeared as “Son” in their production of “Trad” by Mark Doherty, which received three Elliott Norton Awards and two awards from the Independent Reviewers of New England.  He was also seen as “Charlie” in their production of “Stones in His Pockets” in Brussels and here in Boston.

Hamell and O’Reilly previously collaborated on McMullan’s dark comedy, “Jimmy Titanic.”  Set between Heaven and the doomed ocean liner, “Jimmy Titanic” follows the story of two proud, young Belfast shipbuilders who died when the Titanic sank on her maiden voyage. On its critically acclaimed world tour, it was performed as a one-man show with Colin playing more than 20 different roles.

The Here Comes Everybody theater company, founded by Donal O’Sullivan and Cathal Stephens, takes its name from one of the main characters in James Joyce’s “Finnegans Wake.”

HCE’s mission statement notes, “Our roots are in performing the twentieth-century modernist work of James Joyce and other Irish writers.  In recent years, we have widened our interest by performing the work of twenty-first-century Irish playwrights.”
