October 10, 2025

A couple of other upcoming October events that just came up on the radar screen:
•The “Live at The Druid” series – which actually takes place at The Lilypad, next door to the famed Inman Square pub – will feature one very impressive traditional Irish music quartet on October 21: accordionist/melodeonist and sean-nos singer Diarmuid Ó Meachair; fiddler Joe De Georgeo; flute and concertina player Seamus Noonan; and pianist Matt Mulqueen. Long story short: All four have distinguished credentials and performance experience.
•County Laois singer-songwriter and guitarist Emer Dunne was all set to kick off her very first US tour – titled “Folk Threads” – last month at the Irish Cultural Centre of Greater Boston in Canton, but was delayed because of travel arrangements. Everything’s been straightened out now, and Dunne will be coming to the ICCGB on October 30. Dunne has a commanding vocal presence to say the least, and a repertoire that includes numerous Irish/Celtic and folk crowd pleasers: "Wild Mountain Thyme," "Come by the Hills," "The Parting Glass," "Shenandoah," "Sweet Sixteen." She's also shown a willingness to go beyond the familiar, evidenced by her lovely cover of acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter Karine Polwart’s “Daisy” – a winsome warning to those emotionally frank persons who lack the protective covering sadly needed nowadays – and renditions of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and even Seal's "Kiss from a Rose." Her 2021 debut album "Hourglass" was produced by Bill Shanley, who's worked with the likes of Paul Brady and Mary Black).
